ribbon and doll buried?

A few years ago, I lived in Eastern Washington and would often go with my husband and friend to old cemeteries. We found one at the edge of a farm field that was very old. (People who had settled there). Some were from the 1800's to the 1960's. One of them had a purple ribbon sticking out of it, I pulled it out of the ground and it was some type of doll tied to the end of it.

I freaked out, apologized and reburied it. I the grave was to an old man. Can anyone tell me what that might have been? And do you think I messed something up.

Possibly a cut the cord spell. In which case if it was that old both parties were probably deceased, therefore had no need for the spell anyway. Why were you guys digging around in a graveyard again?

Ha, ha. We weren't digging, I like taking cemetery pictures. The ribbon was sticking out of the ground and I pulled it out. After seeing the doll tied to it, I reburied it. I'll find the pictures of the cemetery and put them in my photos.
