what does it mean?

Okay so whenever I do a spell, I always have a green, yellow, red, blue, and purple candle lit to represent the five elements. Tonight I was doing a slightly darker spell. To explain further, I was calling upon the night to do a curse. And when I curse someone, I write his/her name and birthday on a piece of paper. Then on the paper I have a drop of blood. I was doing my curse and to release the energy, I took my knife and stabbed it through the paper. When this happened, all five elemental candles went out. This has never happened before and I am just wondering if anyone has any explanations? Thanks for the help. Also, before I am bombarded with thousands of comments warning me of curses, I am aware of the repercussions and I did not go into this as a newbie.

No, I was inside and away from any air that could have blown them out.

You hit a brick wall. When candles flare up, energy is high. When candles are struggling it is due to low energy or opposition. When a candle extinguishes itself, you've been bested. Either this person is protected (by their own hand, someone they know, or a spiritual guardian) or whatever powers you work with just shut you down...tough spirit guide perhaps?
