Astral vs Lucid Dreaming

For the misinformed on the difference between astral and ''lucid'' dreaming. Lucid dreaming you are in a dream state. Which you are sleeping. Lucid dreaming is the skill to control dreams by setting triggers in the sub conscious to wake your self up. Dreams can be your sub conscious working out issues hence where lucid dreaming becomes a useful skill, so when it becomes too intense you can wake up and control all of your actions and movements. When dreams become ''astral'' its a different feel, lack of control of what you do, and often more vivid. The color is more indepth and brighter and generally you're fully aware of what's going on, even if you don't fully get what's going on or what you're seeing. These type of dreams you typically don't wake up until it plays itself. Its more common for people to ''astral'' travel in their sleep, because they're more open to be at peace and feel out for vibrations which allows them to move more freely with their astral bodies. Now understand you can not experience OBE's in lucid dreaming. In reality one's is just being consciously aware of you leaving your physical body to go off exploring the here after. Generally you're wide awake during this process and its the start of learning to Etherical projection. Which ultimately means that you're astral traveling why you're awake. Its a bit harder to learn because you have to be able to read energy and have some idea of where you want to go on the astral. That's where obe's come in at. Reason being that you're fully aware of you taking off to whatever adventure that waits. No you do not have to have a ''near'' death experience to etheric project nor to experience yourself leave. It simply takes practice and learning how to utilize different vibrations to elevate your astral self to new places. That ladies and gentleman is the difference between lucid and astral and what an obe is.
Now to travel in just meditative state, there's several ways to go about it. Stepping through a door, silver cord method, etc. The easiest method I personally found to be the most effective, is right before you fall asleep, slowly reach out for different vibrations as you drift off. Go with even the lowest and follow it, see where it takes you. If you're not familiar with energy in that sense, its probably best to learn with the elements first. If you learn to pull out that energy of whatever element, you can work into the other ones. The best sense for entering the astral is through ''feeling'' and then sight. Picking up or sensing energy is crucial to any kind of ''magickal'' work, and understanding of how it works. Especially when trying to learn to ap. (Astral travel). Now granted, most people can do travel in dream state, but aren't aware that is what they're doing. The key to astral is being fully aware of leaving and getting past your mind space. (Which Lucid dreaming does not do, because you're not in a dream state, but rather in a mediative, and still conscious of the world around you).
After you get aping down to an art in meditative state, you can move to etherical projection and it becomes second nature, meditation really isn't need other than to raise energy, chakra work, and to chill out. One other thing, you should be able to do this on your own without the aide of mind altering drugs. Although, for some it can open the door, it can and often becomes a crutch and the easy way to do things. Just
put in the hard work and it pays off in the long run.

Note: falling asleep in mediation is probably the best sleep you can ever get, it's quite refreshing and it's not uncommon either.

Thank you Boom for this post.
Allow me to add just a couple things in addition...
Lucid dreaming is when a person is aware they are dreaming thus dream control becomes possible, not exactly the same thing but often incorporate one another. Lucid Dreaming is used sometimes for divination or mental strengthening.

Astral projection is possible during slumber but is not at all the same thing as dreaming. Dreaming is entirely in your head, it is your subconscious taking over while your concrete mind and physical body try to rest. Astral projection is when the astral body (the name of which differs between belief systems) splits from your physical body. Actual dreams do not include much to do with the astral planes, if anything.

Again thank you for bringing this up Boom. :)

Umm your astral body doesn't actually split from the physical, It's still very much attached to the physical this is why it's not uncommon for people to "feel" what happens to the astral body during travel. The consciousness itself comes and goes, but in theory, the physical body couldn't survive without the astral.
Lucid dreaming is more than being aware of dreams. For two reasons. 1. if you're controlling it in the dream then obviously you have set some sort of trigger in the sub conscious and doing this on a well aware manner. Which is more than being "aware" 2. Lucid dreaming is a learned skill while dreaming is not. Everyone dreams whether they realize it or not opposed to just being aware of the dream itself. It takes time and practice to set triggers into your sub conscious to learn how to use lucid dreaming, and it doesn't necessarily lead to the astral either. You have to be able to leave your own head long before you can use dream state to astral travel on a self aware level. Lucid you stay in your own head.

I would also like to point out that connection between the physical and astral body is often seen as a "silver" cord. It's also a method used to astral travel.

Hawthorn, that is a personal perspective. Many see the spirit/soul as having many parts and in traveling, one of these parts does in fact split off, most see this as the conscious/will or "mental" side not the vital life force. The idea of the soul/spirit being one solid thing is more in the line of Judeo-Christian and Greek beliefs. Some Native Americans, Egyptians, Hindus saw/see the spirit as having many parts that are separate yet together create the completeness of the individual.

I do feel pain from spiritual "injury" when journeying and can even come back feeling sore or sick afterward if I had a negative encounter. Many do. It depends how much you can separate your consciousness from the awareness of your body. It has advantages and disadvantage. You will sense more clearly without preconceptions clouding your reality but you experience everything completely, even pain.

Never have a experienced any kind of pain while projecting, if you are experiencing pain then you are doing something wrong. Your "spirit" should slide right out like a kid on bacon grease.

Not at all. Personal perception comes into play as how one interperts what's being seen on the astral, oppose to how one sees the astral body. Generally, the astral body stays attached, and if you want to get all "spiritual" about it can not survive without it as it's directly connected to the soul. However since you're a physical being and there is a bridge per say between you and the astral, you're still very much attached to the physical and don't fully leave the physical until death. Often you will feel yourself come back to your body, You couldn't do that if you didn't stay connected to your physical self. Most commonly, if they're coming up back and or taking off they will feel like they're vibrating, not to mention when connected to the astral body, you can feel what's happening to your astral on a physical sense. So matter of personal perception? Not really, just general concensus of follow practitioners who have experienced the similar experiences to what is being described and myself included.

I'm not talking about pain when leaving. I'm speaking of feeling pain while journeying, sensing everything 100%? Example: If a thorn pricks me, my finger hurts?

I've been journeying for over 12 years now. I know what I'm doing Boom =)

When you journey to heal someone, you have to get passed a physical person's mental/emotional manifestations. I'm not a medicine person, so I usually help with mental obstacles or emotional damage, nothing "soul" deep although I have ended up that far because the obstacle or damage dragged me there. I have encountered some problems that ended up being a lot more complicated than I expected but not difficult to fix. These manifestations are closer to the physical because the fears are very real to the victim and you're pretty much in their world, so what they believe goes. And yes, getting hurt there hurts!

I don't just wander around the spiritual to have fun. My journeys are sometimes a bit dangerous depending on where I need to go and what I need to do. They aren't all though, and most are not. I am however careful and can handle what I do. And I make sure I have my husband nearby when I'm going to do something more risky. I'm not doing something wrong, its extremely common when people project to work with energy and spirits hands on instead of through ritual.
