Is he "real" in the sense that there is a spirt that takes your soul to the underworld when you die, or is it all made up?

In my opinion, hell is exaggerated and something the religious leaders may have made up because they were losing many followers. So they needed something to restore everyone faith in god, therefore bringing the money in to them!

No, I mean, is the Grim Reaper a real thing in the sense or is he made up?

He is made up. An idea of "personalising" death as a "figure".
There are many such beliefs, the Banshees of Ireland for instance. A howling dog. (When my father died the dog whimpered, he didn't howl!)

The grim reaper is a representation of the energy/power of death. When someone dies the life is "reaped" from them, hence the sicle. A ghostly or skeleton body represents death itself. And the black cloak...I'm guessing it is either to represent earth or just to look mystical.

The grim reaper is very similar to the horseman of death in revelations (Bible) and I believe that is where it stems from, if my memory serves me.

Death is not evil nor dark. It is a natural end to the cycle of life. Everything must end to experience a rebirth/change. So even if there was a grim reaper running around. It's not a thing to be feared.

Well he's not made up and he's an angel (the angel of death)
he appears in the last moments of the life of every person to take his soul.
his shape will be like a person u love or sth nice if u were good in ur life and he'll be like a person u hate or sth u afraid of or just very awful and scarry if u were bad.
the person may see him for days before he/she die and noone around do.
this is real and dont belive me but keep my words in mind because u will remembes that when the time comes

I think the grim reaper is a funny character. It looks like hes always smiling, he might be the only one who sees the humor in his job.
But seriously life after death is a complex thing. Its all about consequences. I do not think death is so glamorous in that way it is usually described by "fluffy" people.
I like the grimreaper because he symbolizes change. And change is so important, if death had not existed, everything would stand still.
Hey do santa exist? well, for some people he does, and not for some others. What would life be without fantasy?

Death is an intelligent force. I do not doubt that. I've seen first hand the mercy of death and it's precision.

But I doubt that death looks anything like a grim reaper. Since so many people die every hour of the day, it is my opinion that death is an energy form.

Not all things in the spiritual have bodily forms. That is something human's of this world can relate to, so we consistently put faces and shapes to beings we can't fathom.

Allow me to explain...if you have problems with mine argument, mail me, do not post it here in the forum, for I will not respond to forum "attacks".

Death is an element. Just like the other elements in the true 10 Key Element system ( If you wish to know more about this, mail me! ). Death as an element has a living spirit, just like you can "summon" up the elements of Air, Water, Earth, and Fire, you can also summon up the element of death. When Death appears, he uses the form of the Grim Reaper. Granted, unless you know how to do physical summonings, then you will have to have your 3rd Eye open to be able to see him. Now, Death also has a feminine form, which appears as a young woman with jet-black hair, snow white skin, and a pentagram...this is Death's bride you could say.

Extra Info:

Now, there is such a thing as Necrokinesis/Deathbending, and that is controlling the Death Essence that surrounds something as it dies.

The spirit simply takes your soul from your body as it encompasses it with this Death Essence, it does not actually take you to the Underworld.
