Hoodoo

Has anyone had any great success with Hoodoo work?

I am awaiting work done by a rootworker from the AIRR site, from the divination that was performed it has said a basic love spell will bring my ex back to me, hoping this means it has a really good chance of working.

It was also said that I have a talent for Hoodoo, so hoping to learn more about it.

Hoodoo has changed my life. Once i was introduced to it, i never went back to other magics - not even for a second glance. The AIRR people are my collegues, and i should congratulate you for finding such a good group of talented workers.

As a sidebar, i wrote an article which complied my favorite free online resources for studying hoodoo. It' can be found here:

Now something I've noticed are common misconceptions of hoodoo.

I interest myself in understanding these and the practice itself greatly. I don't particularly take interest in practicing magick as I prefer the very study.
Hopefully my trust in your judgment pays off; hoodoo is an uncommon practice and is rarely seen, I would love to study it and take a look at the site listed.
The idea of hoodoo tends to excite me when learning about it. :D

Its got me really excited to learn more, especially the products from Lucky Mojo.

The work being done for me should hopefully start soon (fingers crossed), until thats over with I don't intend on doing much work myself incase it affects the spell.

But in the meantime I would love to hear more success stories, from that I think you can learn more about the various spells, the link given by LdyGry is very good and I have read a lot of the pieces on there.

Hoodoo is a very "simple"--classic and clean magic workings. Recipes handed down, and none of that hooey one has to worry about with a lot of magic practices.

Thank-you so much for the link ldyGrey.

I tend to lean more towards herbs, oils candles and more natural alternatives in aromatherapy and herbal medicine.
So this is very helpful :)

You all are very welcome for the link! Glad you enjoyed it ;)

What Lady Snow said is right - there is a ton of misinformation surrounding hoodoo. People confuse it with Voodoo all the time (remember Voodoo/Voudon is a religion not a magical practice). Hoodoo is a type of American folk magic developed by enslaved Africans, combining Protestant Christianity, African magical techniques, American Indian magical techniques, Jewish Kabbalah and other magics, and some Central American curanderismo/Catholicism in southern pockets of the United States. Up until the past ten years or so, due largely to the influence of catherine yronwode (www.LuckyMojo.com), almost all hoodoo practitioners were southern Protestant Black Americans.

An important side note is that all traditional rootworkers or conjure doctors consider themselves Christian (predominantly Baptists). They see no conflict between their Christian beliefs and their magical practice, unlike many other adherents to the religion.

Recently there has been an upsurge in Neo-pagan interest in hoodoo, but the adaptation of hoodoo into a more Pagan framework is *not* traditional hoodoo - it is eclectic hoodoo, if such a term exists. If you're not doing work in the name of the Lord, i.e. the Christian God, or praying the Psalms, then you're not doing down-home, authentic, ol' timey hoodoo... not that eclecticism is bad or anything and not that you can't do hoodoo-type spellwork and pray to Isis, just sayin'...
