lots of people.

the key is not to shut off your brain, but to relax and let the thoughts flow past instead of holding onto them [example, 'whats for dinner?' let it enter your mind and leave instead of going 'pasta? or perhaps roast beef'] you might start with a guided meditation, or music, something to focus on when you get use to sitting and breathing. many people will fidget and get bored, so you could also look into other forms of meditation such as walking meditation, which is exactly how it sounds, go for a walk [preferably in nature] and just observe the world around you. don't bring music or walk with someone you'll chat with, just yourself on a relaxing nature walk and observe the sounds, smells, colours, and sensations around you.

is there a specific technique you're interested in? i just kind of dove into meditating as a kid, so i usually just go 'i'm bored, time to meditate' and just do it. i've just started trying meditation apps and guided meditations which are a nice change of pace, but along with relaxation, you should take this time to gaze inward and find out more about yourself. while there are guided mediation which can help, learning to do so on your own is important too.
