Self-Written Spells outco

I've been a practioner of wicca for 11 years, I've cast premade spells and gotten superb results&uncanny at that. But I've recently taken an interest in writing my own because I wanted to add my touch on spells such as "Banishing Spells" to get rid of rodents for an example but even though I follow the basic outline;herbs, colors, symbols, written intent&personification of the rodents:(Toy Rat) witch would actually be in the voodoo categories. I can't seem to get the desired results. Any advice?

Have you tried not using a toy rat? And if you have any doubt in your ability to execute your own then there wouldn't be enough power to energize the spell

D-Con rat poison works great for getting rid of rats.

"An it harm none do what ye will" magickal or not I don't like causing harm to any form of life or nature. I am a firm believer in the "Law of Three" and "Wiccan Rede", I would normally use such methods as traps&poison but #1:I don't want to cause any harm&#2:Poisons such a D-con is being replaced with a poison that is less potent and children&pets can eat and not get sick...
Thanks for suggestion though :-)

Any exercises I can do to loose self doubt in my spells? And yes I did but figured representation of my intent would be stronger if I used a toy rat
