Essential Oils vs Herbs
By:
After reading several different sources I have a question. Does a true essential oils have the same properties as the herb it's self? I believe this is true because a true essential oil is the purest most concentrated form of that herb. Any help with this? Also I am talking about using essential oils for topical use and for mixing my own annoiting oils and Moon oils ect. Not with or in conjunction with herbalism and healing

We actually do oil blending at the metaphysical store I work at. And yes, the oils retain the same properties. For example: we have an oil for clearing sinuses that is a blend of peppermint, eucalyptus, and lavender. All of our oils are retrieved using cold press processes so they stay fresh longer. We also do certain blends purely for the mystical aspects such as our invocation oil and our astral travel oil. Let me know if you have any questions about our processes.

An herb and the essential oil of that particular herb will have the same properties. The essential oil is just much more concentrated.

Usually, when you can choose between herbs and oils, it is better to go with herbs, as they will create a more powerful effect. But we usually use oil when it is easier or when it is not possible to use herbs. For example, aromatherapy done inside a room has to be done with oils, because if you were to burn herbs, you will not cure and relax the patient, but close to suffocate him/her:))

I use essential oils for topical use only and only after diluting them and for annoiting candles, crystals ect. I use herbs for Incense and for oral intake depending on the herb need ect. I know a lot of people do use essential oils for oral intake but I am personally not a fan of ingesting essential oils. Don't believe it is very healthy

I prefer to use essential oils versus herbs because, like mentioned, it's more concentrated, making what I use them for more direct in terms. However, I also use herbs because there's the level of rawness to it. What I mean by this is that since I'd use a herb almost immediately after I harvest it, I wouldn't be doing anything to take away from that raw naturality, not saying essential oils aren't natural. Either or, they both expand the properties you can use them for.

I believe so. Oils are more versatile as far as their uses go. But there are only so many herbs that are distilled into essential oils. It is much cheaper to use the actual herb as well. For example. You can grow peppermint in your garden easily from a dollar packet of seeds. Whereas a decent bottle of peppermint oil will cost you around seven. It is all up to you and what you plan to use it for.
