I am a Boy Scout of America and am facing serious oppression in my troop. My brother and I are both being discriminated against for our religious beliefs.
Does anyone know of any organizations that might help us or support us? I am looking after my troop and I believe that we aren't the only ones being discriminated against.
Any suggestions will be gladly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
Unfortunately the Boy Scouts is a religious based orginization. They have been getting away with discrimination for years. There may be a Pagan legal group that would fight for you and your brother but you probably would not win. Sorry I can not bring a more positive post.
The original founder of the Boy Scout movement, Baden-Powell, insisted that all Boy Scouts should believe in the Christian God; later the same applied to Girl Guides. It is no more discrimination than any other similar organisation; such as The Salvation Army. If you do not wish to believe in the Christian God, don't be a Boy Scout! It is the reason I never joined. However, in Britain, the Boy Scout movement is starting to change about religion; simply because of the many Nationalities now having Boy Scout troops.
Use my moto: "who cares"
works for me when people tryed to discriminate me when I was younger othen (I whas weird) but that moto helped me, people dont make fun of me now, but I am also tall and bulked up, so that might have had something do do with that
You might want to look to see if there is a chapter of "Spiral Scouts" in your area. Spiral Scouts are a Pagan organization formed to create a safe and friendly place where Pagan boys and girls can have the benetits of scouting without the religious discrimination. You can find their website at http://www.spiralscouts.org/ They have a locator page you can check to see if there is a group near you.
