We need forests as they help the eco system and produce oxygen for us to breathe and they stop the soil washing away when it rains

This is moderately ridiculous and ill informed.

Obviously, nature can handle its own. But if a forest is not cleared of the dead wood, cleaned of brush, etc. it will result in a forest fire typically.

Nobody cares to deal with that.

There is a responsible way to harvest lumber, and irresponsible way to do so, and then there is the response to both that lacks an understanding of the whole process.
