Book of Shadows

I was curious, mainly because I am having trouble with mine. How do you guys organize your Book of Shadows? Do you guystypeit up then print out the pages or hand write it? And is it bound like a book or in a binder?

If you guys could help I would very much appreciate it.

well I personally keep the contents quite oranized like I use tab dividers to keep herbal remidies, spells, and chants apart from each other but I use a number system that helps me to find things relative to that chant/spell/herbal remidy for instance I would have a goddess chant and then a spell for the goddess on the bottom of the page(usually where page numbers are found)I have initials for the tab its in(HB, SL, CH) and then a page number as you book of shadows grows it get quite a bit harder to use this number system since there's obviously going to be more than one thing relatative to another it would be good idea to keep another book that has all the references but use note book paper that has holes and what ever you wish to use as a binding/place to put the papers I personaly use a three ring binder that is 2 inches thick and it has almost gotten full but it's usefull and has helped me out countless times and saved hours of searching for a single paper or a chant that I needed and as for putting the papers in something it does not matter but I prefer using 3 ring binders so I can have the papers organized and all my notes and chants aren't getting all mixed up with others it can be quite a hassel if you are a very neat person like me so you could use the notebooks or try binding it yourself but personally I think its beter to use 3 ring binders

I have a really nice leather bound book that I keep all my spells ect in. Then I have little tabs giving categories (e.g. one for love spells, one for healing spells...) then I have an index at the front on different gems and their uses, herbs and their uses and different candles :)

mines hand written. i have a few books my first one is a spell book, the first half was 'white magic' spells [basic circle casting, candle associations, luck spells, wealth spells, love spells, protection so on] the second half is 'black magic' [curses, hexes, negative spell casting] from there, i've tried to to make several books of herb [i've got a long list of botanists on both sides of my family] but for whatever reason i can never stick with it, so they switch for other things. i have one book of rituals, it starts with Samhain and goes in order until Yule, then it's things like handfasting, wiccaning, dedication, so on.

the most organized to me is my draconic grimoire because i organized a table of contents at the beginning, then compiled everything and ordered it before writing it down.

I think it should be hand written. Mine is one book no tabs, I date it and then write the out come of whatever spell or ect..Mine will be past to my granddaughter and she is working on her own the same way. My feeling is that it is more personal that way. And more like a journal then a book organized and sterile.

well for me im in the broom closet so its on a secret hidden file on my computer. I have sections (Egyptian magic, spells, rituals etc.) all my rituals and spells are written up by me. I use spells on hear as guide lines for the one I make I fell its more likely to work if its your/some on of you blood. my hope is that when I come out ill put it in page protectors in a binder with dividers and when the binder become filled find some one who can bind it for me in a nice leather bound one with my a symbol on the cover. I realize my way is I guess you could call it the new way because much older and wiser wiccans will say to hand write it because its your energy going in to the paper but my hand writhing sucks so that's why I type it. also some say to use parchment paper because is has better properties but what every you do it up to you.

I keep one notebook for prayers and spellwork, one for tarot and divination studies, one for rituals, and I keep a tabbed 3 ring binder for research. I try to keep everything handwritten, but sometimes copying down research material is tedious, so I'll just print that out and highlight important parts and jot down my notes in the margins before putting it in the binder.

I keep it all in a trunk with the rest of my books and supplies for easy access, so that way I can lock it up for privacy, and travel with it easily if need be.

I handwrite everything in a nice book I bought for myself. I love the aesthetic part of owning a nice leather bound book with parchment paper and fancy cursive inside.

But, you don't always have to do that. A spiral notebook, composition book, a diary style book, or even a binder/folder with rings/prongs will work as well. You can get tab dividers and categorize the tabs so everything will be organized.

Another option, which is for internet or computerbased users. You can create a Folder on your computer named 'Book of Shadows, BoS, etc.' And place information there. You can type everything, date it, and even post links to spells there. You can save any files you type from a word-processing program directly into the folder.
