Magic

I am often dismayed at many posts on this site. All these comments and questions about what is and isn't magic. Do spells work? Some do, most do not! All the questions and answers about runes, and stones.Crystals, candles, chakras, etc. These are "magical beliefs"; or religion if that pleases you.
But magic, real magic, is all around you! Every living creature; every plant and animal is magical. YOU are magical! All your life your body works "magic". With no effort on your part, your heart pumps blood around your body. You breathe. Your glands do their work. All day, all night, millions of cells in your body are dying and being replaced.Every bone in your body renews itself every ten years; no living bone is more than ten years old. (How many of you knew that?)
Consider a tree. How does it get water to the topmost twig when it could be anything up to a hundreds metres from the ground? (It does it by capillary attraction.Look it up!) It's magic!
Learn the behaviour of insects; the intelligence of bees; the enormous strength of an Ant.
When I first asked my teacher, many years ago, "What exactly is magic?" I wrote down what she said (as I wrote down everything she said!):-
"Throw a few seeds on to good soil. Add water and sunshine. Treat them with care and tenderness. Watch them grow. You cannot get much more magical than that!"
A great deal of what we call "magic" is merely knowledge. To me, the internet is magic; because I don't understand exactly how it works. Television; radio; aircraft. How does a hundred thousand ton tanker, made of steel, and laden with oil, float?
Magic is all around you. Everything else is "mystical belief."
Bright Blessings from a traditional witch, getting older by the minute!

Sounds to me like a christian perspective on the wonder of life.

Science is magic, I totally agree with you Brysing. Magic is everywhere. It is about understanding the big picture and to control or bend it. To talk in mystical terms all day can make you stupid and ignorant. Television is a mystery - until you find out how it works.

I agree with you Brysing that magick is all around us. Magick dwells in nature, and all these things you consider beliefs, help the caster to connect to and perform magick better. I may be wrong but i think what you are try to convey is that the magick in our every day occurrences such as breathing, and the way a tree grows, and the way animals behave and is just as amazing or even more astonishing than communicating with a demon from hades or something :P LOL(I was just giving an example). and that we should not overlook the things that seem simple and not so supernatural because, they are supernatural.

Science IS the magic. What do you think alchemy is?

Of course, we have all had "spiritual" experiences. There are things in this world that cannot be explained, as yet! We do try to"change" things in ourselves, and in our environment. We do try to focus our own energy with that of the Earth. In any case, I didn't say I dismay at everything on this site, I said "some of the posts". Children wishing to become mermaids, werewolves, vampires. These are what dismay me. Not the truly spiritual aims of people working towards a spiritual end.

Ok, let's try calling magick a conscious behaviour of will? An act of affecting life by use of the occult.

My dear friend Brysing..I just don't think they understand. New Age and modern technology have "covered the tracks" of the old ones.
