Is there any type of magic that is, well .... Practical? Like a physical shield or (like many spells on this site) and aura bow or aura blade? Help appreciated.

Most magic can be practical, it all depends on how you use it... As for "aura bows and swords" reminding me of skyrim, it is not possible, magic is energy manifested by the will of the user. Not physically but metaphorically speaking.

So there isn't a spell that at least could create a shield of some sort that blocks physical things, let's just say a stick being thrown. Even if you couldn't see it.

(When I saw that skyrim thing it definitely clicked in my head :) )

Magic can be used to protect yourself non-physically, whether psychically, emotionally, shielding from 'magical attack' (whatever it is you consider that to be), and so forth.

To defend yourself physically, you need the physical means to defend yourself. Of course that might mean fleeing the immediate situation, raising an arm to block a thrown stick, or what have you.

Think of spells like prayers, you can't pray for a shield to appear and poof one does. Magick is the same, just more ritualized and relying on natural energy. It cannot do physical changes like aura blades. Magick isn't as fun as the movies would have you believe.
