Definitely. But use some heafty offerings and protection charm. He is not a cheap lwa, also he will strike you down with afflictions if you are reckless or arrogant

I have offered him candy (apparently he loves it) coconut incense and a soy candle made specially for him I have his veve (I think that's how you spell it) do you think this was ok ?

To anwser Phoenix 's question, papa legba is a voodoo lwa and isn't like a demon or an angel. Think him as a minor god/ powerful spirit , unlike angels or demons lwa can't be characterized as good or evil.

Legba is a trickster yes but you he plays tricks and jokes with your but you learn from them Legba doesnt deal in Astral Projection because in Vodou there is no such thing he deals with opening Doors after all he has the keys to all of them

I'd ask your personal spirit guide. We all have them. You can use automatic writing for this. I don't recommend the use of the Ouija board at all. If you don't like automatic writing, or can't do it yet, purchase a board called The Psychic Circle, and channel your Guide that way. Good luck!
