You can always have a teacher and do a lot of research aside .You do not have to restrict yourself only with teacher or only with selflearning .Experiment and see which of those suits you .Different students learn easier ,though different methods depending of their nature .
If you tend to slack around and lazy about ,perhaps you need a teacher to motivate you to persist and learn .
If you can easely motivate yourself to gain knowledge on your own and experiment you can learn on your own .

Good luck :)

If there is something you need to "re-learn" that tells me that initially you learned on your own or were taught wrong. If it is the first or last case, I would advise finding someone knowledgeable in the area you would like to learn/re-learn. Just know that when you ask someone to teach, you must be willing to put in the work as well.

50-50 really. you should learn on your own, but it's good to have someone to bounce questions off and study with. this site is great in that way to help you, but you should study on your own. you can learn and practice when you're ready, not wait for someone to be.
