Catnip aka Catmint – Nepta Cataria
Catnip will: Invite more love into your life, Enhance your good looks, Make you smile more
Magical: When you sprinkle a little bit of dried catnip around the rooms of your home your guests will just seem happier, and so will you. Some long-lost friends may even show up at your door. To become more radiant and allow your inner beauty to shine, make a tea from a quarter cup of dried catnip leaves simmered in two cups of water for at least ten minutes, strain the tea and then add it to your bathwater. Use the tea on a daily basis.

Medicinal: A weak catnip tea made of two tablespoons of dried leaves gently simmered in a pint of water for about ten minutes and then strained will help reduce a fever. Catnip tea is also relaxing, so it can help people fall asleep. Small quanities of it will relieve colic in young children and help get rid of gas pains. Never boil catnip because boiling causes it to lose it’s curative properties.

Sage – Salvia Officinalis
Sage Will: Help with Divination, Increase Abundance, Invite Longevity , Protect your home and family
Magical: For magical purposes the leaves are best harvested before the flowers appear. It’s believed that if you eat sage in May you will live a long life.
Carrying Sage on your person will encourage wisdom and help you connect with your intuition.
To cleanse your home and property, raise the spiritual vibration, and create a bubble of protection, burn some sage and walk around your home and property with it. You can also burn it during meditation to help see into the future.
Finally, to ensure success and attract abundance, plant some sage in your garden or in a pot on your windowsill.
Spearmint- Mentha spicata
Also called Garden Mint, Our Lady's Mint, Sage of Bethlehem, Erba Santa Maria and Lamb Mint. Spearmint is the most generally cultivated of the culinary mints. The leaves are almost or completely stalkless, lance-shaped bright-green and hairless. Mice hate the smell of mint and will avoid any place where the herb is scattered.

Magical Uses: Spearmint is used in all healing applications, especially in aiding lung diseases. Smelled, spearmint increases and sharpens mental powers. For protection while asleep, stuff a pillow or mattress with spearmint.
Parsley- Petroselinum sativum also crispum
Parsley is a taprooted biennial with solid stems, triangular, toothed and curled leaves divided into three segments, umbels of tiny cream summer flowers, and aromatic "seeds". Grown near roses, it improves their health and scent. Leaf infusions are a tonic for hair, skin and eyes. The leaves, root, and seeds are diuretic, scavenge skin-aging free radicals, and reduce the release of histamine. The second-year roots, the leaf, and the seed are used. Parsley is diuretic and helpful for gravel and stone as well as for edema, jaundice, and kidney problems. The root is the most powerful part. The oil of the seed (five to fifteen drops) has been used to bring on menstruation. The seed, when decocted, has been used for intermittent fevers. Steep one teaspoon of leaf per cup for twenty minutes or simmer one teaspoon of the root or seed for twenty minutes. The dose is one-fourth cup, four times a day. Parsley leaves (with violet leaf and figwort herb when possible) are used in poultices for cancer. A parsley poultice will help insect bites, stings, and sore eyes. Parsley tea is used for asthma and coughs.
CAUTION: Persons with weak kidneys should avoid this herb.

Magical Uses: Parsley was used in funeral rites by the Greeks; it was held sacred to Persephone. It was wound into funeral wreaths and used to decorate tombs. Though the plant has associations with death and is often regarded as evil, the Romans tucked a sprig into their togas every morning for protection. It is also placed on plates of food to guard it from contamination. Parsley is used in purification baths, and those to stop all misfortune.

Blood Root- Sanquinaria Canadensis

Magical: Hanging a dried root over the entrance to your home will protect your house and make sure only loving, kind, and helpful people enter. Carrying a small piece of the root in your wallet will attract abundance and love. The dark red roots are called King roots and will give you the courage to face anything. They’ll also help you release limiting beliefs. Put a dried root under your pillow and sleep with it there for a month at the end of the month, bury the root in your garden with the intention of letting go of anything that no longer serves you. Reaffirm that release every morning as you look in the mirror and watch your life transform.
Medicinal: Bloodroot is poisonous but can be used to topically treat ringworm. Native Americans traditionally used the root as a dye for their clothing and bodies.
Dragon’s Blood – Daemomorops Draco

Magic: considered an herb of empowerment. It will enhance the effectiveness of other spells and herbs. If you want to enhance your love life or cure impotence, place a stick of dragon’s blood under your pillow. When the resin or powder is burned as incense it will protect your home, invite love, and bring a sense of happiness and joy into your home. A pinch added to other incenses will increase their potency. Worn in an amulet, Dragon’s blood will increase your energy and help you attract love. Add other herbs and their effects will be increased exponentially.
Medicinal: in former times, Dragon’s blood was used to treat syphilis.
Peppermint- Mentha piperita

Magical: To cleanse the home of any negative energies and raise the spiritual vibrations, add a small handful of fresh peppermint leaves to your cleaning solutions. If you’ve been tossing and turning at night, place some dried peppermint leaves under your pillow; they will ensure you of a quiet night’s rest. Rubbing the dried leaves on your money and putting a few in your purse or wallet will ensure you of always having more than enough money. When you have to make a decision, ponder it while holding a bunch of leaves against your forehead. The leaves will help you make the right choice. You can use the leaves in the same way to get rid of a headache as well.
This familiar scent is excellent when used for purification. Though slow-growing the results are worth the wait. Caraway Seed – Carum Carvi

Magical: To keep away sickness and disease, place a small, tightly sealed bag of caraway seeds under your child’s crib. Wearing an amulet of the seeds will improve your memory, protect you from evil spirits, encourage fidelity, and attract love. Chewing Caraway seeds before an important date will help assure you of creating a loving relationship. To protect against unwanted visitors, sprinkle the seeds around the outside of your home. As an added bonus they will also repel bugs.

Magic: In the past, cumin was baked into bread in Germany and Italy to prevent mischievous spirits from stealing the loaves. Today, sprinkling a bit of powdered cumin on an object will prevent it from being stolen. When worn at your wedding, Cumin will ensure a long and loving relationship. It will also ensure that the wedding proceeds smoothly. When the powder is placed under the marriage bed, cumin will prevent the partner from being unfaithful. Scatter a handful or two of cumin and sea salt around the outside of your home to banish fear and negativity. Worn as an amulet, cumin will encourage peace of mind as well as help you attract love. Feeling nervous about your future? To ensure abundance and success, burn dried cumin leaves as incense.

Basil- Ocimum basilicum

Magic: Basil is a powerful multipurpose herb. Sprinkle a little bit of dried Basil in the corners of each room to remove negativity, protect your house, and bring you good luck. After a difficult day add it to your bathwater to help you relac and bring balance and harmony into all areas of your life. If you’ve been having strained relationships with loved one lately, basil can help you improve your communication with them. Its aroma invites understanding between people, so tuck a sprig of it it into your pocket to avoid major clashes and protect your while out in public. To mend a lovers’ quarrel, place a sprigs of it around the bedroom. A basil plant makes a wonderful housewarming gift because it brings good luck to both parties. To find out whether a relationship will last, take two sprigs of basil and gently place them in a fire. If they pop and jump as they burn, the relationship will be volatile. If they move apart as the burn the relationship won’t last. If they stay together while burning, the relationship will be harmonious.
Medicinal: Basil can help lower blood pressure and ease the symptoms of emphysema and bronchitis. It is also a wonderful insect repellent.
Ginger- Zingiber officinale

Magical: placing ginger on your altar will enhance any of your endeavors and bring great success to all of your activities. Chewing on ginger before you work with any other herbs will increase their power and effectiveness. To attract passion and love, wear some dried ginger in an amulet. To cleanse an area and dispel any negativity, burn some dried ginger as incense.
Medicinal: Ginger is an excellent treatment for diarrhea and upset stomach. It also helps stock seasickness, and relieves gas pains and colic. Ginger tea is very calming and when mixed with lemon and honey will soothe a sore throat and help break up a stuffy nose.
Mint- Mentha spicata, sativa, aquatica, and others
A Druid sacred herb, most mints are creeping plants that hybridize easily, producing infinite variations. The have erect, square branching stems, aromatic foliage and flowers in leaf axils. Mints are stimulant, aid digestion, and reduce flatulence. They flavor candy, drinks, cigarettes, toothpastes, and medicines.
The infusion of the herb has been used for diarrhea and as an emmenagogue (it brings down the menses). It is a classic for colds and influenza, especially when mixed with elder flower-but be careful, as this remedy will make you sweat, and you must take care to keep well covered with blankets and woolens. Stomach flu is helped by a mint, elderflower, and yarrow combination in a standard infusion of two teaspoons per cup steeped for twenty minutes and taken in quarter-cup doses.
Mint is helpful in stomach complaints, but a strong infusion will be emetic (it makes one throw up). Mint tea eases colic and eases depression. It relieves earaches when the fresh juice of a few drops of the essential oil are placed in the ear. A few drops of the oil in water, applied with a cloth, help burning and itching, heat prostration, and sunburn. Apply it directly to an itchy skin condition or sunburn. For heat prostration place the cool fomentation on the forehead and wrists.
Mint tea with honey soothes a sore throat. A classic cold remedy that will unblock the sinuses is two drops of mint essential oil, two drop eucalyptus essential oil and the juice of half a lemon in a cup of hot water. The mix is first inhaled and then drunk when warm. CAUTION: No more than two drops of the essential oils should be taken at any time, and no more that two cups a day of the above mixture. Larger doses can be toxic to the kidneys.

Gather at harvest and hang in the home for protection. The seeds promote peace between people who are unable to get along. Use it in drinks or crushed in incense. Helps one find romance and is an excellent herb to add to an elixir when the Great Rite is celebrated. Throw instead of rice at handfastings or add to the handfasting cake.
