Paganism in Schools?!

Okay, I was wondering, does anyone get/got taught Paganism in school? I think this is a big issue because it is just as important as all the other religions e.g Christianity, Buddhism ect so why is it not taught in schools? I believe it should get a fair chance because not everyone has heard of Paganism so that proves a point. How ever is it going to get beleivers if nobody knows about it?!
Anyway, before I start writing an essay, please leave any additional points/comments. Thanks x

Because paganism's a cult and schools only teach major religions which are Islam, Sikhism, Christianity, Buddhism and Judaism.

Paganism I don't think is a recognized religion by the U.S. government. Wicca is though.

Public schools cannot teach something that is not approved. Typically, they cannot teach religion in general, only if it somehow coralates (sp) to the subject at hand.

For example, you can teach about the crusades, but would be rather boring if you didn't explain the purpose of them and the religous ties.
Those religions are recognized.

Personally, I don't think paganism should be lumped into one catagory and have some hald witted teacher attempting to cover it.

In canada the christian and Catholic schools are considered private schools, they cost more for the parents to enroll their students in. in mainstream schools, it is not considered acceptable to teach any religion. I'm sure if someone wanted to they could fund a pagan school, but it would be expensive to enroll in, and most likely many parents wouldnt want to send there kids to it (come on, look at it for a second, it may seem like a good idea to you guys, but your the minority) Personally, I like it the way it is. No religion at all taught in public schools.

Also it should be stated that in india, the history and teachings of buddha are taught to college, and perhaps grade school kids.

they teach about the salem witch trials. That was always a good subject (social studies), that i always seemed to excel in. Anyways, Like stated earlier, The schools aren't allowed to teach anything that does not somehow in someway coralate to the subject being taught. I did a beautiful essay on the salem witch trials and if you were a witch why it was so dangerous (for obvious reasons.) I was harassed a lot through out school because of my religious beliefs but I'm still around. Also at the library for the longest time anything that wasn't Christian based was blocked, but there were books out the wazoo, then one day the school got tired of all the petitions and blocked all religious sites, as far as i know, all religious sites at that perticular school are still blocked.

Sorry but I only read a very few posts. You can make your own Magick Club in school, But you can't do any of the spells you may at your house.

Yes they do teach little magick in school... Maybe not the stuff like spells (magick is not only with spells) like your use to now days. I had a teacher that teach tarot and another that teach mind reading. Keep a close eyes for those kind of teachers.

I have always been a firm believer in educating teens about all different religions. I think it should be taught along side history. Religion is a part of culture and is part of history. If we do not teach tolerance by teaching the main concepts of all different religions then how are we suppose to be well rounded, educated, and able to work with all types of people?
