It's known as "The witching hour." It's said that magic with negative effects would be more powerful if cast at this time. It isn't something I've ever given much thought about.

Midnight has no magical significance. Midnight, just as midday,is a "standard" time. At "midnight" all clocks in London will be exactly the same as clocks in Cardiff. But, I can assure that the actual time in Cardiff will not be the same as London!

People have an obsession with this time, call it the witching hour etc. I think it is because it is the point between night and day, or rather the previous day and the next.

These 'between/in the foot of two things' seems to be an obsession with a few practitioners, I have no idea if this is a modern invention or has historical basis.

It may also be that in most areas, midnight is a quiet time and you can gt on with your work in peace! I know a few modern athors who will practice at 3AM these days because people don't go to bed at 9PM like they did back in the day- less folk shouting etc. and disrupting your work.

In my system the hours of the day and night are assigned to a planetary energy, this changes every day, and so midnight isn't just significant for one reason, but for many depending on the day.

If you want the actual midnight, and not the midnight of the clock, you should check the hours between sunset and sunrise in your area. The centre of those hours will be the actual midnight.

The night is calm.

I think a lot of the mysticism behind midnight is 1.) it's during the night 2.) it's represented by the number 12.

The number 12 is a symbol of cosmic order, the number of space and time, etc. The number 12 comes up in many systems of beliefs and cultures. I think that has to do with a lot of the dogma that surrounds the number.

I don't believe it enhances anything such as that. I think it's more the symbolism of the number 12.
