That depends on how further along you are on the learning curve of spell making.

For a seasoned person, all that is required is perhaps just themselves but if you are new to this then I would suggest taking some time to learn the basics first....casting a circle, basic candle magic, calling on the elements and establishing which deities you are going to be working with.

The only real thing you need to cast is yourself! All of the other things that come with most written spells, such as candles, herbs, oils and incense, are what I call "spell enhancers". They just make it easier to collect and channel the energy you drum up.
Make sure you are well versed in meditation and visualization but remember, it's all up to you!

It depends on what your casting and how experienced you are. As its said, the most experience only need themselves.
Try learning the basics if you are new to all this.

Focus, imagination, determination and knowing yourself and how your mind, heart and energy work are most important. All of the ritual , herbs, correspondences etc are you enhance the primary tools listed above. The ritual and other things are to get your mind and energy a ligned with your will to be cast out into the universe.
