Miscasting is the wrong word in this situation. More than likely what you want to know is what effects will hit you if you choose to bind someone. Not knowing your beliefs I can list a few possibilities: nothing, confusion, anxiety, or sleeplessness. These are the typical 'misfire' symptoms people feel.

I have to ask, how did you come to the conclusion that this person is 'too dangerous' or that they need to be 'bound'? I also wonder what exactly you mean by binding the person. This is not like in the tv show Charmed where you can bind a person so that they are not capable of casting a spell.

One would think that someone who has earned a 1st degree in Wicca would be fully aware of binding spells and some of the issues involved with casting one. Could I ask what Tradition you trained in where you earned your initiatiion?

I never intended to use it necessarily, only curious because I've never tried one. And I never thought it would work like charmed, to be quite honest I didn't much of anything.
I've been teaching myself for some while its been such a long time since I've been in a group that could only tell you it was rather eclectic... that's were I learned the word

Less traditional I suppose but I was in a really small town in Nebraska and didn't have a lot of options. I still don't know the where to find a traditional coven in this State

Ah, then you don't actually have a first degree since a degree can only be granted by a coven. (And as a side note, there is no 4th degree in Wicca.)

The biggest issue with binding spells is that if care is not used one ends up bound to the person you are trying to bind. You cannot then get them out of your life and you will continue to have negative interactions with them. The only way to break this cycle would then be to try to undo the binding. That's why many of us, even ones with proper training, do not like to use bindings unless it is absolutely necessary. There are a number of options that can be used instead that don't have the inherent possiblility of complications found in doing a binding.

So far I've always managed to avoid it... but I'm sure there will be something that tells me when and if its necessary. Thank you lark... my bio was written before I read your post about degrees
