Athiest Wiccan/Pagan

A few of my friends and i were talking and the question was raised, Can an athiest be a wiccan?

Yes, an athiest can be a wiccan, but you would probably be more along the lines of a pagan. Wiccans believe in a God and Goddess, and everything (including you and me) are the children of them. Pagans dont really have a traditional God. Some are Athiest, but the majority of Pagans believe that nature and everything around us is connected.

In Traditional Wicca it would be perfectly possible for one to be both atheist and Wiccan. Of course this is because Traditional Wicca is orthopraxic (about how one practices) rather than orthodoxic (about how one believes). For a Traditional Wiccan how one perceives Deity is a personal and experiential thing. One could believe that the Lord and Lady are divine beings...or one could view them as Jungian archetypes. Since what is important is how YOU experience the nature of Deity, either answer would be correct. Most atheist Wiccans that I know (and I don't know many who are) view divinity in the sense of being avatars rather than Divine beings.

Wiccan and Satanism are two totally different religions. Wiccans don't even believe in Satan and from the stuff I've read the Satanists don't believe in him either at least not the Christian version of him anyway.

I am an atheist and a pagan. I do believe that everything is connected and I do not have a belief in a certain God or Goddess per say. Well...I consider myself a goddess of sorts. I am the god of myself and what I do and who I am, my actions etc...

Although it works for me, I've known a few people over the years who think it's strange that I am an atheist.
