Good & Evil??

I always used to think there was 'Good & Evil' but I also used to think there was 'white & black magick' till I learnt that magick has no colour! Anyway recently not to sure about good & evil & would like people's views on this subject. I've spoken to a couple of Shaman & they said that good & evil is man made that it does not egoist. So there saying it does not egoist on earth or in the spirit world. So I asked "what about murder is that not evil?" They told me "No" I understand that good people can do bad things & murder is complex & can't also be classed as 100% an evil deed cus any of us with kids, if any-one hurt them, with-out a single thought you'd do time for your kids (well most people would) so would that be classed as evil? Not in my books but other's may disagree. However I have different views on serial killer's/ people just killing for enjoyment/torturing people for fun. Would a serial killer be seen as not evil? So would love to know your views just on god & evil does it egoist or is it manmade? This subject is really making me scratch my head so your views are welcomed.

I also think that their is no good, nor evil. It all has to do with your perspective. Take Hitler for example. He thought that by killing Jews he was doing the right thing and he probally considered himself a "saint." While other beleived he was the devil's reincarnation! Good & evil are man made theories, in my opinion.

Being evil is too easy, and an extremely childish behavior even when taken to the highest extremes.

I don't know what shamans your seeing, but I don't think they know what there talking about.in my opinion.

I partially agree. My take is yes, there is good and evil. But, you can not say that any particular thing. I was, and still am, a sniper. Someone who commits murder does the same thing. Why is one evil and the other not? Evil and good are in our intentions, in our thoughts and in our "soul" for lack of a better word. I have met evil people, and there is evil pouring out of them. It surrounds them. It radiates from them.

As a magician, I also see above the concept of good and evil, to an extent. I know that what you project out, you get back. Karma. So, if you do something you better be ready to accept the consequences. By knowing this, being aware of the consequences and choosing not to do an action because of unwanted karma is part of discrimination, which is one of the first virtues you are expected to learn. (There are many drivers on the Houston highways that are thankful I choose not to accept negativity to my karma. Lol!)

I also understand that good and evil, just like light and darkness, hot and cold, positive and negative, are necessary. It is the process for change, growth and evolution. evil serves a purpose in the plan of everything, just like good does.

Personally I believe there is such a thing as a good deed however I disagree with the concept of evil. Very few people that are thought of as evil think of themselves in that way, in fact if say none of them do. For example the serial killer you mentioned, to society he is without a doubt evil but to himself he is quite simply normal. In that context evil tends to be a label we give these people along with psychopath and mentally darranged in an attempt to seperate ourselves from then rather than understand them but thats a pop paychology lesson for another time. There are a few actions though which are almost certainly good, for example donating to charity, that's your money and won't be missed by any one except you but if you can spare it there are others who need it. That's my stance on it anyway.

Those who murder either have psychological problems or are destructive in nature, not evil. Even animals will kill, weather kills, plants kill, we do not live in a world full of rainbows and sunshine. It is natural to be destructive. Nature can be extremely brutal. Its just that some (for good reason) do not embrace this side of themselves and choose to respect all of life. But an aggressive, violent side resides in us all and even in the smallest of animals and insects.

It wasn't that the person I was referring to was thought of as evil. It actually radiated out from him. People who did not know him, know what cell he was in, or have a clue about him personally would feel it when he was close. Believe me or not, but there is evil.

But is he radiating evil or is it just intimidation? To me evil is an action beyond redemption and for that to be true the individual must also view themselves as evil. This thread has however got me thinking. Does remorse mean that the individual was evil? By my current definition, yes it does, as the individual regrets there actions then even to them the act was indeed evil but clearly that individual is socially less evil than the remorseless killer. So obviously my logic is extremely flawed.

The issue, as Raven said, is defining evil. What most people think of as evil is actually fairly natural, animals will only ever really do what benefits themselves without really any exceptions (selfish gene theory). So if anything evil has just been labeled whereas good is the invention of man. I always find it humorous how we refer to animals as acting naturally but humans as evil.
