Think of it this way. A male and female come together and conceive new life. This is the birds and the bees. Well, the god and goddess is like the big daddy and big mama of the world. Some people choose a certain male and female deity as their ideal god and goddess, the personification they believe embodies what the big mom and dad would be like. Some like to keep it simple and just call them the Lord and Lady, God and Goddess, or Horned One and Maiden/Mother/Crone Triple Goddess

The way I've heard it described is that the god and the goddess are both representations of the divine.
Some people choose to just worship the divine, some people choose just the god, and some people choose just the goddess. It really depends on your own personal preferences.

Most branches of Wicca honor the God and Godess as the balenced equality of the universe. You don't really have to go any farther then that. Its the balance of all things. For some the God and Godess represent all deities together as an over all hole. Or you can put individual names to those deities of your own choosing. If your drawn to Zeus and Aphrodite then they are your God and Godess.

In British Traditional Wicca (ie for Gardnerians) there is a specific God and Goddess whose names are only revealed to you upon initiation into the Tradition.

Many Wiccans however work with a Moon Goddess and a Horned God. They may or may not have specific names for these Deities or they may simply refer to them as Lord and Lady. This is particularly the case with those new to Wicca who may not yet have formed a relationship with any particular Deity.

Other Wiccans may choose to work with specific named Deities as they come to know them.

One of the things about Wicca is that what is important is not being told which Gods to work with, but learning through your own personal experience which Gods are calling out to you in particular.

There is an excellent book by Judy Harrow called "Devoted To You" which discusses in depth how to create a relationship with specific Gods and Goddesses.

There is many Gods and Goddesses. Some of them are norse, or celtic, or greek, etc. You can search for it through websearch and they'll show you all the different Gods and Goddesses
In Wicca, there is both a God and a Goddess for balance, You can pick the ones you want to invoke by researching the things they help with.
Like for example:
Cerridwen is a Celtic Goddess, she stands for inspiration and magic
Hecate is the Goddess of Death, Ghosts and magic
Helios is the God of the Sun
Isis is the mistress of Magic
Her husband, Osiris is the God of the Harvest.

So try to find what kind of ritual you'll be doing and look for the deities that work with what you're looking to gain

it can be very confusing. basically, since there is male and female aspects in nature, so is true in the divine. from there, it gets confusing lol.

the easiest way to look at it is mother earth, father sun. from there, you have The Horned God and The Triple Goddess [Maiden, Mother, and Crone] . The Horned god could also be The Green Man, or is two parts of one being: The Oak King and The Holy King. You could also ignore them and adopt deities from other religions like Lugh and Brigid, or Osiris and Isis, or Zeus and Hera/Juno [you get the idea.]

myself, i have two, there's two deities i follow, but at sabbats it's The Horned God [or the Oak/Holy king on the solstices] and The Triple Goddess [Maiden, Mother, or Crone depending on the sabbat]

When I think Wicca, I inadvertently refer to the Horned God as Duo and The Tipple Goddess as Trinity. Kinda makes sense to me, but then again, I've only just begun my year and a day of research and learning a few days ago.
