normally, i've been told it's whatever book that goes with your deck. if you have a celtic deck, a book on a celtic spread. i have a few books on tarot, one i really like, but it doesn't help me much, a little booklet came with my dragon deck, and i find it helps me more.

Your best bet is to use the handbooks that come with a deck as they are the best suited handbooks to that particular deck.

Most decks should come with a handbook.

I bought my deck, then just learnt it through various different meanings and interpretations then I interpreted the pictures.

I didn't like the Handbook I got with mine, made no sense

I bought a tarot deck and found the book with it useless,so I just put the cards away. But today I went to the library and found a book called "The Only Tarot Book You'll Ever Need" by Skye Alexander, I've been reading it all afternoon and found it much more user friendly. I've even done a few readings, I hope this helps.
