If it is true...

I personally think that J. K. Rowling was inspired by a past life of her's when she wrote Harry Potter. I've been wondering, if a world like Harry Potter did exist, where and when could it have? The British monarchy did employ court magicians, so they may have established a school for magic users and a "ministry" to oversee and regulate magic. On the other hand, I think it is possible that some magic users (who likely considered themselves superior to others) rejected "muggle" society and culture and established hidden sanctuaries for magic users. This would explain, in the book that is, the prejudice and (though the term doesn't entirely fit) racism among them. Do any of you think something like this could have happened at some point, or have anything to contribute? (this is not a discussion about Harry Potter, just an idea I'm tossing out there)

J. K. Rowling wrote Harry Potter for entertainment. Not to inform people. I am sorry, but no. Magic users, occultist, witches, wizards, or what ever term they use to describe themselves, are just ordinary people. We have jobs, go to school, have lives ect.

There are some little hidden things in Harry Potter one can see looks like something real, but that is the same with The Craft, True Blood, Practical Magic, and the like. There are bits and pieces people can relate to the real world and magical practice (that is one of the hooks), but in the end it is fiction. it is fake. It is not real. It is meant to entertain you and not to inform you of real magic.

This is not a post about Harry Potter! I just started thinking, "could a world like that really exist?" and posted it. I know that it's just a book series. I'm just asking, "do you think that, at some point in time, a group of magic users could have set up a community similar in design to that which exists in Harry Potter?" If your going to post just to tell me, AGAIN, that Harry Potter isn't true, don't bother. This thread is for a discussion about something completely hypothetical. If you aren't going to contribute to that discussion, leave. Your welcome to say "no I don't think there has ever been a time when magic users thought they were better than anyone else and went into self-exile to create their own society" go ahead.

Could a world like that of Heinlein exist?

This is the purpose of FICTION..to entertain the imagination.

First off, i notice you often talk about Harry potter, it's not real, leave the subject alone, i would like it to be real too, but it isn't.

Now when J.K Rowling wrote it, she did say she wrote it on passed experience, but not how you think. She used some things in the book as metaphors.

I am aware there are a few, but i only know one.

The Dementors were a metaphor for J.K Rowlings personal battle with Depression. She described Dementors a number of times. A few of my favorites were "They sort of freeze your insides" and "They suck your soul, and leave nothing happy in there trail" Obviously you can tell that these are now a very nice metaphore for something that everybody feels at one point or another.

Alright fine! I'll drop the subject because none of you people seem to be able to understand what I'm saying.

I think a fair summation in a middle ground would be it is possible she had been a practioner or what have you, but like many famous espionage writers have done, used it as inspiration from their daydreams and dramatization of the experience. That would be pushing it though as it was mostly just written for kids.

I know a certain book that in the middle of the story, the protagonist's friend taught the protagonist how to meditate, ground and make a mental shield... The certain book i have DOES have a connection to magick, right?
