Merlin was actually a welsh sorcerer in british and welsh mythology. If you'd like I can give you a history lesson. Other than that most of the fictional portrayls of Merlin are quite fanciful and imaginitive. Only tid bits of history and mythology were actually rendered in movies and other media he is seen in. I also have a few books I can recommend but I'd have to sort through my study to dig them up.
