The History Of Valentine.

In light of February, I thought it'd be nice to dive back into a bit of backstory and history on Valentines day!

As with all major popular holidays like Christmas or Easter, Valentines day started out as a pagan religion. More specifically, a Roman holiday known as Lupercalia . It was a fertility festival celebrated in honor of Faunus, the Roman god of agriculture.

When Christianity rolled around, Lupercalia was still celebrated, but outlawed. At the end of the 5th century, Pope Gelasius declared February 14th Valentines Day. It was also commonly thought that the 14th of February was the beginning of bird mating season, which implied the idea for romance.
