Well it looks like the solitary thing for me, I'm planing a lamb roast for my boyfriend and I and exchanging gifts in the morning.

Regarding celebrations, it depends on your path, but it's to celebrate the returning of the sun, rebirth of the God, or the battle of the Oak and Holly Kings. It depends on the path, I'm sure there's more but primarily it's the return of the sun.

The idea of Yule has changed over the centuries. Originally, it was the "time of no season". There were really no "actual" months of the year. There was "planting season" and "harvest season". Yule lasted for twelve "day lights", and no work was done out of doors. It was the time when the Earth was "dead", but after the time of "no season", there was gradually more "Daylight". Not so much a celebration of the return of the Sun, more like a waiting period.During the twelve days of Yule there was certainly lots of eating and drinking. And there was a Yule log; a real tree that was supposed to burn for twelve days and nights. With the rise of Christianity, Yule became "blended" with the feast of the Roman God, Mithras, and then became blended into Christmas. But even the early Christians kept Yule "different" from Christmas, and began the practice of observing Yule a few days before "the birth of Christ." At the present time Yule is just a few days before Christmas; but the twelve days were still kept for Christmas.
Oh, well! Time changes everything!

I'm Wiccan so I celebrate on the solstice as the rebirth of the God as the sun. My coven usually meets on the Saturday closest to the date. This year we are meeting on the 20th. On the actual day of the solstice my wife and I have another circle.

On the Saturday my coven has three circles. I don't think anyone does that many so it's a personal thing. The first one we don't cast the circle but we do have a blessing of the food and make two plates for the Lord and Lady as offerings. They use to be placed under the tree after the meal but it's easier for my dogs to eat so it's now placed on the mantel of the fireplace. Our second circle is at midnight to mark the midpoint, afterwards we go outside and wassail the trees. It's hosted at my house this year so my plum trees get the honour. The final circle is outside to greet the rising sun. Yes, it's eccentric, but we enjoy it.

I'm a solitary practitioner so I will be celebrating alone. It is the way it has been for years.

I am a solitary wiccan, but my sons girlfriend wishes to join me for solstice. We will have a decorated table, make wish bags, eat cake n have ale. Im just doing cupcakes. And at midnight we will pop our bags and celebrate. I live in an apartment complex, so not much outside events can be done.
