Throbbing in the head
By:
Well, I recently just joined, but I have been browsing spells for a couple days beforehand, but I encounter a problem whenever I try any type of spell. I feel a throbbing in the back of my skull. Could this be linked to my rather wavering belief in magic? Am I suppressing my own potential? Any information could help, and I would appreciate it a lot!

To be completely honest, the pain you are experiencing may be psychological. I have never heard of anything like this before. You may want to try going into a meditative state and doing a visual cleanse of your aura before attempting any spells.
You may have an underlying reluctance to try Magick or even be subconsciously afraid that something will happen. Your best bet is to take baby steps and teach yourself that Magick isn't harmful if used properly.
What spells have you tried so far..?

I've mainly tried spells that are supposed to "unlock my powers" but this throbbing didn't start until I tried with one in particular that I have been unable to find again. Another problem is that I am usually unable to obtain a meditative state due to an overactive mind (due to my vast interest in science and it's applications; these things constantly course through my head)

yea i got to agree with the poster above. get the basics down first before you start spell casting.

i don't know what a headache could mean, but it cant be good.

Achieving meditation is a process, but trust me, it is so worth it to get that down...on so many levels.

Best of luck!

Do you know of any tricks to easily clear your head? It doesn't come easily to me at all.

If you cannot focus on nothing, focus on all the things that make up nothing. Align yourself with these things. Become these things. You will become nothing. And you will then become everything. Sometimes, it's best to have some soft music playing. I highly reccomend Loreena McKennit's album "Book of Secrets". As far as a certain spell being the cause of your headaches, I highly doubt this is the case. Again, it's all psychological.

I will definitely try and remember this before I try again. Thank you, both of you. If anyone else has had similar issues with headaches and such, I would appreciate a message. But for now, I shall just thank you and head off to sleep!

theres about a million posts about it, but frankly the easiest way to do it is to relax your whole body, part by part and visualize a place in your mind where you feel completely at ease and relaxed.

construct the place bit by bit and add details, it will let you active mind do something but at the same time has a calming effect.

youre creating a "sacred" place some people would call it. but it is a safe and good place that you create that you can go to anytime and as you construct it, then over time you will find it easier and easier to get into that very and deeply relaxed state.

focus on your breathing quite a bit. inhale through hthe nose and exhale through the mouth very deeply. your stomach (really your diaphragm) should rise and expand.

At a certain pont make an effort to hear your heartbeat and kind of focus on that.

when thoughts drift into to your head try not to connect them. just dismiss them. So if Sally pops into your head, don't connect her to the lunch you have tomorrow, just dismiss the intial thought and go back to focusing on the inside of your eyelids, or making your special place of your breathing

be PATIENT and don't rush yourself. there is no rush for anything. just let everything happen as it is going to happen and if you can relax for 10 minutes on Tuesday, go for 15 minutes on Thursday.

just relax and let go.

there's tons of stuff including guided meditation techniques out there and some stuff resonates with you while others might not.

but visualization is a key component to spellcraft, imho, and once you got that down i imagine your headaches will go away and youll experience a lot of success with your magick

Best of luck and you know, its always good to hear of successful progress so keep that up too if you want!

What is likely happening is that you are not properly grounded and centered when you do your magical working and you are therefore using your personal energy to power the magic. This can indeed lead to headaches, nervousness, and feeling ill until your energy is replenished. If you aren't familiar with how to ground and center (which is one of the basic skills of magic) you can find information about it at http://www.spellsofmagic.com/read_post.html?post=598888
