Last night i took a cleansing bath to prepare for a spell i wanted to do (redo leaking honey jar+ start a seven day love candle) in the bath i was very focused on my intention and i called on Godess isis to help me with getting the results i wanted i practicaly asked for everything in the bath. When i got out i felt completely depleted and drained of energy i couldnt do the work i wanted to do and just went to sleep....is it possible that me calling on isis cast a spell on its own?

Well, if you plan on working from the Hoodoo/Conjure tradition, one thing you should know is that you shouldn't be calling upon Isis into your workings. You should be calling upon God, and by that I mean the Christian God. It is evident in the History of the practice as well.

i was thinking the same thing Barbi....either it worked or it was a sign that the work shouldnt be done.

Hoodoo was formed in the South. Even though it was not there in the first place, it is definitely there now. Through syncretism. That's the majority of what Hoodoo is. It's not one solid practice that is done a certain way. European Magick, Native American beliefs, Christianity, all of these beliefs came into Hoodoo and formed it into what it is now. It's not just me taking it and twisting it, it is how the practice has been done traditionally. The people brought here were forced to convert themselves and their practice so they would not be killed.

You can read many authors on Hoodoo. Most of them will include some sort of Bible verse, Psalm, or Prayer to the Christian God in their works. They do not call upon Isis, Thor, Kali, or another God from another pantheon. They call upon the God that has been called upon for years in Hoodoo, The Christian God. I can refer you to links that support my statement. I can link you to a whole episode of radio show that supports my statement.

Hoodoo is Christian Based Folk Magic. It's not a tradition that you can go cherry picking your way through. It may not be a religion, but it is a magicial system that has strong ties to it.

You seem to mistake that Hoodoo is "american witchcraft with a voodoo twist" , this thread has nothing to do with propaganda , paying for services , you seem to be missing the whole point , Barbi. First of all hoodoo doesent have bible verses in it to evade persecution , thats senseless for two main reasons. One at that time Any kind of magickal practice was deemed negative , that does not mean adding "verses" would make it something they'd let you practice. And two this is a practice which has very specific outlines , its not a random mish mash of practices , its a structured practice with principles from other practices. Its not something you can freely change to your whim and still call the same thing. Also its not about your belief system , its about whether or not you are actually practicing what it is you claim to be practicing. You cannot practice Hoodoo with Norse , Egyptian , Sumerian , ect. Gods and Goddesses because that isnt Hoodoo , thats a mishmash based on hoodoo which does not have the right to hold the name.

First off, that does not even make any sense Barbi. You do not read "propaganda" unless its beneficial to your cause. So if someone gives you information to show you that what you may think to be correct is in fact not, you wont read it as it proves you wrong? I don't think anything in your statement even makes any sense to me. I wonder if you even know the difference between Hoodoo and Vodou? I could provide you with some links to help, but we all know you will not read them. Good luck in your studies, you may need it.

Wow i never meant to start a debate with this thread.

i respect all your information and appreciate you sharing your knowledge however i would like to point out that i didnt add this post in the hoodoo section and thats for a big reason.
yes i am aware that a sugar jar and 7 day candle is very common hoodoo work and i am fascinated and intrigued to learn more about hoodoo. However at this point in my practice i havent chosen a specific path yet and i am open to learning about all dieties, all paths and all methods until something clicks. So calling on Isis felt right for me because i feel a connection with her because of my egyptian heritage and because of how powerfull she was at bringing her lover back from the dead!
So my work is a mixture of many things...work that suits me personally and suits my thinking and my belief system. I never meant to disrespect a particular path or method and im pretty sure that Barbi didnt either.
