you should try to leaarn the craft before you attempt spells

Before jumping into spell work, you should do as suggested above and learn the craft. Spend some time gaining a fundamental understanding of magick: it's history, how it functions, etc. I would dedicate some time to browsing through the forums and doing some research on a few things to get you started.
