As far as I'm concerned, they are simply the male and female terms for magic user, like in Harry Potter. Mage is a gender-neutral term and warlock refers to a dark (though not necessarily evil) mage. Sorcerer and Sorceress are "higher-level" mages.

wizards mostly learn and study, i think. witches actually do the magick. but you wont go around finding people calling themselves wizards...

It is nothing but a label that someone claims or others put on that person to identify their path from the more broad label of being a practitioner. I myself do no claim a path, but I guess I would be closer to the label wizard due to the fact that I study and learn. I am currently working on my 9th 400 page book of shadow, trying to reclaim the knowledge that my family had last generation before we went our seperate ways.

A wizard is a person that strays from his or her path and betrays their coven..

It's just a title like everything else.

Faithseeker, no offense but I have to disagree with you on the whole Warlock thing. The word Wrlock is defined as, "truth twister"; or "oath breaker." If someone were to call you a Warlock, they would be calling you a liar.
