i'm having a problem with this spell, i can't make a minion no matter how much i focus.

There not really minions, there thoughtforms, i don't know allot about them but i know you need allot of years experience under your belt for this to work.

You need to have an intimate understanding of psi, and psi constructs to create a thoughtform.

Though, if you intend to have a "minion" prehaps you aren't ready for one.
