Magic helper (?)

hello,
I would like to ask you guys a question.
...so i've heard that a witch, should have a magic helper (demon, spiric, etc) if she wants that her spells would really work.
So is it true? Do you need to have a helper for spell chanting, and what about you, do you have a helper?

Are you referring to spirit guides, totem animals, deities ?
