Potions?

Hello.

I have always been interested in the concept of potions, and now I want to learn how to make my own. I have done some basic research, but I am still kind of confused about the "chemistry" of it. I am a scientist as well as a practitioner, so I know the basic principles of chemistry and psychology, but how do potions work and have magickal properties? I am not looking for fantasy results and content, but real information. I thank anyone who can help :)

I'm not well versed in potions but I know a few things. Like, water, red wine or any liquid can make a good base for it.

That's all I know, but here are some nice links to check out!

By the way, do you know of any articles or pdfs that explain * how * potions fundamentally work, not just recipes? Before trying things, I like to understand how things work.

Witches have made potions for thousands of years. They were the first "healers". Of course, today all this has been taken over by the Medical Profession. But, Medical Researchers are still doing what witches used to do; finding new drugs, finding new treatments.
I am a witch, and can still make potions, but the medical Profession does it better, and they have more resources.I still, now and then, have domestic animals brought to me for treatment. And I still have jars of potions and ointments.

The hows are related to the correspondences of the ingredients .Depending on purpose of the potion you would add the corresponding herbs while working during the corresponding moon or planetary cycle.

I would start with kitchen witchery.
But be careful, don't let your scientist side get in the way. Magic is about working with energy, it won't fit in any frame of science, logic or common sense :) Healing herb potions will be easy to understand and explain in science terms, but hexes is a different story.
