Well learning about this site you could learn in the "Articles" then click on the "Survival Guide" it will help you understand more on this site, then read the "Chat" rules.
Starting in magic(k) I suggest you read about it more, Do not read "Harry Potter" and expect that to be right. I mean actually read good books, you can ask Lark (she is a moderator here). She knows good books to read.
To start with magic(k) after reading about it, I would start by learning the basics, which some of the books covers the basics of magic(k) if you read them.
Remember do not cast a spells thinking it will go poof and what you want will just appear, magic(k) doesn't work like that. Magic(k) will take as long as it needs.
Remember there are some fake spells out there that will not work, no matter how much you try, believe, and or vizualize. These spells are;
Transformation spells. (Including body changin spells).
Summoning mythical creatures into physical form.
Casting fire from you hands.
Controling the elements.
Remember we run on "The Laws of the Universe" or "The Laws of Nature."

Also about.com is a good site for all kinds of info. Once there, put Wicca basics in the search bar. It will take you to basics of magick, too. I was on it for hours just looking and reading. And copy and pasted a lot of things to my computer.

Welcome to SOM. If I were you I would begin to practice grounding and meditating as that is beneficial in any type of spell casting and then from there decide what type of magic you want to learn and gather as much books and info as possible. Always read books dealing in occultism and non fiction rather then fiction and take many notes and focus and keep reading, remember knowledge is power. As much as you know the better and everything will come together. Just stay focused, use common sense and don't be lazy and expect to be spoon fed information, but, of course any questions or problems are always welcomed.
