broad magickal question..
By:
hello, how are you all??

my friend was talking to me a bit about working magick, and he said we must never use for personal gain. what exactly does this mean? does this mean that you can't heal yourself, or do anything for luck or money or finding a job??

my friend told me that if you work magick for others then good things happen to you. but what if you need to heal yourself or fix a problem? please, if you can, answer my question i would love to know!!

thanks,

In meditation you can "think" yourself into healing a minor illness in yourself without actually casting a spell. You should not cast a spell to better yourself; only for others. Say you want money, or a better job; meditate on the problem, you may well find the answer. Try visualise money; some bank notes in your hand; visualise yourself doing a different, and better, job. Neither the money nor the job will come to you, but you might think of a way to get both. But, if you know somebody who is poor and needs money; cast a money spell for them. If your spell works, then money will surely come to you.

The idea of "no personal gain" is not so much a rule as it is a personal belief that some people have.

The world will not stop spinning if you do a spell for yourself.

I can't think of a single spell that could be done where a person would not gain from it, be it emotionally (feeling good that you helped someone) or directly (having the goal of the spell effect you in whatever it is you are looking for).

Even when calling upon your guides, deities, ect. and looking for guidance, you are gaining something from it.

Rashnu is correct. There is always some gain; be it emotional or even material. Perhaps it is thought rather "not very nice" to cast a spell for one's own benefit. But there is no real reason why you shouldn't!
