The color of Magick

White = Good
Black = Evil

Light = Good
Dark = Evil

When I called myself Wican this is what I was taught.
I was also taught about balance. Polariity.

Male/Female
Goddess/God
Free Will/Responsibility
etc. etc. etc.

So does this mean that

Goddess = Good?
God = Evil?
and so on?

Not at all. They are simply two sides of the same coin, equal but opposite. And so is the case of Black/White, Dark/Light. There is no Evil Black Magick, Or Good White Magick. Magick is Magick. There is evil intent,(people are gonna be people, and there are always going to be those who wish to bring harm to others), and good intent.

So why the so common belief that white is good and black is evil? I believe it became a part of Wiccan belief thru Christianity and the other "book religions".

Let's face it, many of us in the Pagan community were raised In a book religion. I was and the ideas of Good & Evil were deeply ingrained in my psyche
Therefore, it made sense when I became Wiccan to see White-Light-Good opposing Black-Dark-Evil.

So where is the balance in this? Why do we fear our darker side so much that we refuse to think about it, much less explore and become familiar with it?

I'll save discussion of the Rede and Rule for a day when I have more time, save to say the origon of these is fairly recent. From what my research has shown me, our ancestors were cursing each other and doing love spells, all over the place.

How many times have you heard someone say, 'don't do this or that because or the Rede or because Karma will getcha' and what does this remind you of?

Reminds me of ' If you do such and such, you'll burn in hell, for ever!'

Or 'You might be interfering with his Karma if you do that healing spell.'

Do you really believe you have the power to go up against the Universe? If the Universe has something planned for someone, all your puny little spells aint gonna change a thing!
I'd like to go on, but alas work beckons, and I am out of time.
To be continued...

There are parts of this I agree with greatly and there are parts that I find absolutely wrong.

Magic itself does not have a set color, black and white are only used for categorization and not for the intent.
I agree with this.

As for the point of which you speak of the rede and such, those kind of things are only guidelines, especially the rede.
"Harm none, do as ye will", this couldn't at all be possible. Every move you make hurts something or someone, therefore following them to a 'T' is practically impossible.

Not to mention it is very possible to change things the Universe as you say 'has planned'. Saying that no matter how many spells you cast won't do a thing is absolutely incorrect on so many levels.
Magic happens naturally, on its own, no need for practitioners to cast spells or anything like so, it happens regardless. Magic is the flow and shifting of energy, ever changing and causing things to happen. As you put, being in a plan, there is indeed a specific way things are headed in a natural sense. But every time a spell is cast, that disrupts the flow of energy and forcefully manipulates it to change something that was either not going to happen or not going to happen in that particular way.
If you are familiar with the "butterfly effect" you'd understand now where I'm going with this. The slightest change in energy flow can change its original use, which inevitably changes what happens in the end.

Like in DNA, the slightest mutation in protein can make the original use of it completely change therefore sprouting something completely different, like green eyes instead of brown.

Thanks for answering my post. I'm always interested in the viewpoints of others.
btw, sorry for the typos, I was in a hurry, lol.

I think I may have expressed myself badly.

Do I believe it's possible to change the Universe thru Magick? YES! That is the very foundation of Magick. Do I believe you can subvert and prevent the life lessons you are destined to complete, no.

To quote your post:
"Magic is the flow and shifting of energy, ever changing and causing things to happen. As you put, being in a plan, there is indeed a specific way things are headed in a natural sense. But every time a spell is cast, that disrupts the flow of
energy and forcefully manipulates it to change something that was either not going to happen or not going to happen in that particular way."

I agree in part with this statement. Yes, Magick is the flow and shift of energy, but I don't believe that it disrupts anything. Magick goes with the flow. That is why it
works better when you carefully chose a specific moon phase, a specific day, or color, or tool. This is why we use correspondences in our spells, to bring ourselves and our energies into the Magickal currents, as a small stream flows
into a river. This is why the closer our connection to Goddess/Nature, the more effective and easier our casting becomes.

When we go against the current, as in doing a spell that might affect Karma, destiny, life lessons, call it what you will, it's a completely different story. Here we are fighting the current, going upstream against the natural movement of the
Universal energy.

The butterfly's wings stir the air, sending a tiny eddy thru the ocean of atmosphere. This tiny bit of energies ripples thru the cosmos, until it runs into a hurricane, and is dissipated and disappears. It has no more effect on the gigantic
storm than if it had never been.

This is what happens when we do a working that goes against the plans of the Universe. Of course, it's only my opinion, I may be wrong. But this is my belief.

something a person once told me stuck with me and im reminded of it now.

"never be so arrogant to presume you matter to the cosmos. With all your worry about whether or not your means affect the great end you fail to reach your own ends."

this is not directed towards anyone by the way it just popped up in my head when I read this. :)

If we understand that a piece of the cosmos/powers at be is in all things including our self,then we understand that we are also connected to it. Weather we make an impact on it depends on how much we shake the web as we live.

A spider knows all that is influencing it's web and reacts to any change in the structure. Even the wind blowing the web causes the spider to react. We are but stands in the web of the universe.
