Sea related craft?

I think besides personal studies, there isn't much of a following and thus information on what I want to go into which is basically being a sea witch or a witch that works exclusively with water and those associated energies.

But does anyone have original, solid, differing information on the topics? Was wondering if I could learn something new besides taking things in, and having to be eclectic by nature simply to bring new things to the table after a while and explore but to provide a watery twist to it. I'm open to anything.

Well, one of the difficulties you may be having is that unlike other paths, the sea is all over the world so there's a huge variety of sea-related craft. I would probably suggest thinking about what kind of practice you want to create and think about the practices you want to draw from. Once you know the direction you want to go in it should get a little bit easier to find more solid historical sources, practices, rituals etc.

However, even historical sources are...uh, less than accurate. For example, in the late 1500's King James accused a coven in North Berwick of causing a storm to capsize his ship and kill him. Natural phenomenon were often mistaken for witchcraft so it can be a little difficult to separate legitimate practices from myths. And the sea is practically a series of quite dramatic and visible phenomena from storms, tides and not to mention the sea life. So, bear that in mind.

There's also the question of what you hope to achieve. Some people, when they talk about sea related craft, are attempting control the sea as opposed to using elements of the sea. If you're talking about the latter, you can replace a lot of tools with objects from the sea. A friend of mine collected sea shells and painted runes on them. You can also use sand for geomancy (a practice that was quite popular in Renaissance Europe and Africa). There's a bunch of stuff you can do.

Alternatively you can look at sea deities and rituals used to worship them. Even if you don't want to worship the deities themselves, there are quite a few elements you could use such as plant associations and some of the rituals.

If you look on Amazon there are plenty of books on Sea Craft. The one I use is titled Sea Magic and is by Sandra Kynes. She lists many Deities who are aligned with Sea energies, and explains about working with the moon as well as meditations and shells. It's quite a good read. Anyway hope this helps and that you find a book that suits you. Please will you let me know if you find any other good reads?
Blessed Be.
