No doubt there are Gypsies who practise magic. No doubt there are some Gypsies who are witches. But not all Gypsies are witches, and not all witches are Gypsies.
I am a witch, but in no way am I a Gypsy!

A gypsy is a person of European decent and the term Romany is often used in non magickal societies as a means of not stereotyping the people. Personally, I believe it still hold the stigma. The people continue to hold there pagan cultural beliefs more than any cultural group I have ever met. I have not known one of them that practices any type of "dangerous magick", though I don't know many of them. I think that's more of a stereotype.

Not all of us are closer to nature, we are mostly Christian/Catholic. The term gypsy is offensive over here we rather the term traveler. And us of it that are into it mostly specialise in tea cup reading, tarrot and reading palms. When it comes to witchcraft we are more to the celtic side of it with traditions.

There are many "travellers" who are not Gypsies; mainly Irish. The real Gypsies are very proud to be called Gypsies. I have known quite a few. They used to "winter" not very far from where I lived. They are sober, law-abiding people. They do not leave any litter when they strike camp. They should not, in any way, be compared with "new age travellers".
