writing your own spells

I tend to either write my own spells or taking other spells I ha e found and changed it around till it fits me. I find them more powerful this way. Is this stilla common norm? I dont have a lot of contact with other practioners but o here. I also do a lot of spells without words, but instead with body gestures and music, mostly due to the way I grw up and not really being a talkative person.

Yes this is a common norm. However, it isn't necessarily that they are more powerful, but rather the fact you can relate more to the spells that you write for your purpose, as during so one would usually have their emotions and intent clear while writing it. Things go much smoother when one feels more comfortable with the magic they are weaving.

On that note however, there are spells which are passed down from family/religion/teacher that are often cast as they are believed to hold more power and that belief allows one to cast the spell with more ease/more belief behind it. It is all up to one's own perceptions about magic, spells, tools, and other factors that can decide what is one's 'best' way to practice magic.

I agree with the person above me. I also don't tend to use words when working with magick. The words distract me a little from what I'm actually trying to do.
