Well I know there are a few different woods that supposedly smell like pumpkins, I've never noticed it personally but others have told me that some pear trees smell a bit of pumpkin when cut. Apparently Lilac also smells of pumpkin however the trunk isn't large enough to make a bow so I find that unlikely.

Unfortunately the smell of the tree isn't much to identify the wood from, some people may be able to get a rough idea by looking at the wood itself but the easiest way is to look at the tree it came from sadly.

The tree is tall, somewhat gray in color. When the bark is peeled off, it starts to get into a green, and then a very light tan. it's smooth and round. Flexible and the branches curve around each other.

It is possible that it's a Callery pear tree although it could still be any one of a number of trees.

The Callery pear appears like this:

One of the most useful parts in identifying a tree are the leaves if you can get a good look at them, the pear's leaf is broad and almost round, http://www.missouriplants.com/Whitealt/Pyrus_calleryana_leaf.jpg.

Sorry I can't be more specific without actually seeing the tree up close myself I can only really guess.
