Goetia

I am going to buy the book of goetia soon, and I have a few questions. Why did Solomon Write about it in the first place? I know that he was gifted in knowledge, and a very wise king, but why would he write about this since he was known for being a man of Christian nature? And this is from what I know so if it's wrong please correct me politely, and if you have any useful tips or tid bits on the book, that would be much appreciated.

He was also a power hungry ego maniac.

The Lesser Key of Solomon is more than just the Goetia, though that is what peeks interest the most. It also has a book on Angels, though you will notice the similarities between the two.

Why did he do it? I suspect his ego played a role in it.

I see, thanks Nevermore. I've never heard of Solomon being power humgary. I've only heard of him being a wise king.

King Solomon stands for temple of the sun. Sol latin for Sun.
Om Hindus spiritual Sun God. On Egyptain for Sun. The Sun represents the enlightened, transformed and Empowered soul.

To be honest, I doubt that his name came from all those different cultures. Break up any name however you like and look however you like at it, do research into each syllable, and eventually you'll find a correlation.

there are a lot of people who do not believe king solomon was a real person, but instead the (literary)vessel for the knowledge in the keys, and that this name was chosen for two reasons. 1) that the author could escape persecution by placing what might be seen as blasphemous writings at the hands of a jew, and 2) because his name does indeed formulate a correlation to sol, or the sun. in fact one of the accounts of the king was called "the song of sol". now this is a theory and its not one i am proposing as my own, it is just a theory that is present in the metaphysical as well as cultural anthropological debates.
there are still other people who think it is possible that the figure of king solomon took 72 magi and told them each that if they would create him a "servitor", and then be killed, he would allow their families to have land, and monies, and live in affluence for the rest of the time that the families name lived on. if they did not do this, then he would kill them AND their families. so these magi created 72 servitors to serve the king and their own energy was the source for the beings they created, and their death as a sacrifice allowed these servitors to live on, but the magi created the servitors to eventually destroy solomon(which as the story goes happened). now the 72 goetic beings are actually these same servitors. that is a more off the wall theory but interesting none the less.
i would study the Shemhamphorasch for a better understanding of the goetia.

@ArcaTuthus

Thats a really interesting theory, and possibly true. Several practitioners I've spoken with have said that the Goetia spirits are partly born of the summoners psyche and partly a form of persisting Serviator.

If people keep feeding energy into them over the years, it does stand to reason they could indefinatly linger as well.
