Rankings

Hey guys, so I got a questions about the ranking system . I know alot of people ask these questions, and post questions like this, so I will just give a summary.

What is a rank:
________________
A rank is a symbol or bar, that shows your status on the, SoM website. This bar is a desired bar, by many. However a rank proves the time you have given to the site, and what knowledge you know, and what you have showed.

There are a few ranks. There are 6 ranks that i know, of. The following are in order.
"Fluffy, none, beginner, novice, knowledgeable, and Adept"

The ranks each have specific keanings, fluffy is the lowest rank you can obtain, and is one you, don't want! Adept is the highest rank, and many therefore so not have this rank, this rank is very high abd is earned by dedicated time, study, and by providing advanced help. Here is a summary of the ranks.

Fluffy Rank :
A fluffy rank is the lowest rank, as i had first said. This rank is given to a person bythere beliefs in, mythological creatures(werewolfs, ect) and by stating false workings such as,"becoming a vampire, a fairie, or shapeshifting". The truth is, not all people do deserve these ranks. Many do deserve them however, and due to this, it is seen that a fluff status which is only veiwed by higher ranks such as knowledgeable, know little of magic, and basics of the craft.

No rank:
The no rank is the regular rank of the site. Everyone has this, when they become a member of SoM. This rank doesn't prove the amount of knowledge a person has, but it doesn't say they do not have knowledge either. This rank, is a regular rank. This member participates, and by that will then earn a rank, when there ready.

Beginner:
A beginner rank is the first actually shown rank to everyone, this shows the person has demonstrated basic information of the craft, and the religion they follow. These people will participate in forums, and usually provide Well and clear answer's. These rankings are usually the ones who are still in the basics of learning, and show little knowledge.

Novice:
The novice rank is a medium leveled rank. Thus this rank shows the amount of information the person knows. These ranks typically use a variety of magic, and often know as wide varied level of the craft. While they are in no way as knowledgeable as higher ranks, these people actively participate, and support as well as give solid foundations of beliefs. If you become an editor, normally you will have a novice rank, or higher.

Knowledgeable:
This rank is one of the highest ranks. These people are typically the moderators of the site, and these people help assist the site, so things run smoothly. These ranks have shown there knowledge on the site, have proven themselves, and of course, know the higher advanced topics of magic such as : altered states of concious, or shamanism, they know a variety of the magic topics, and are higher experts than others.

Adept:
The highest rank you can achieve on SoM. This rank is a rank that demonstrates the time a person has given to the site, the qualified knowledge they know, and have obtained, as well as shared, or provided. This rank takes alot of time to achieve and, in reality dedicate their time to the site.

So guys that was the rank. Anyways dealing with the ranks, truth is a rank is just a, rank. It is not needed, but it is a desire. I find people take each other more seriously when you have a rank, due to the fact that, the person has proven themselves along the site.

But the thing is, earning a rank takes time. A rank does not define who you are, or What you know, it is only really a title. If you want to earn a rank to be honest, i cant stress this enough. Only teach what you know, yes it may be cool to copy off of, the internet. But what happens when you dont really know it? Just help with what you know, and dont worry if you have a rank or not.

Feel free to add on, if i missed anything! Blessed be!

There are a couple things I want to fix; Knowledgeable people are not mainly moderators. If your time and look through the site there are more knowledgeable ranked people. Also, when you said "when there ready" on no rank, you may want to correct that, it's not when their ready, it's when they have proven their amount of knowledge and maturity in either forum or chat, and a Knowledgeable or Adept feels as if you deserve a ranking. Then they will place you in the rank they feel your at.

Zeus I understand what you say, but I have noticed that the moderators on the site have the knowledgeable rank. Along with that, by having to prove you deserve a rank, you too end up being ready! By being ready I meant, that they must have demonstrated their knowledge.

But thanks for reminding me!

Then why didn't you pull up one of the many ranking listings which have been made by folks with the ability to rank? How are we, the masses, supposed to trust your unranked and/or fluffy ranked profile?

~

In regards to Novices being "in no way as knowledgeable as higher ranks", that's such so much cow chips not even the best rodeo could get it clean. I, along with a slew of other members, have held every ranking except Adept.

Individuals who like to think the system is infallible will make blanket statements, not knowing how the opinion of one individual on you, your personal practices, or anything else about you will completely change a ranking. I, along with others, have held the Knowledgeable ranking and lost it due to politics, not due to a lack of knowledge.

~

On another note, good luck with your campaign for editorship.

Arisa to answer your question, I don't plagerize from others. I didn't find one that was in reality, truly understanding for new people on the site.

I had a really old account, and no I had the rank of beginner back then. I got gagged, and made a new account. I didn't really to get criticism that was so bashing for just answering a question from mail! I did expect to get some, but not just full criticism.

Besides from that, it is kinda hurtful when you state, "how are we supposed to trust someone who has no rank, or fluff rank?" That i thought, in my personal opinion, was rude. I had a rank once too, i got gagged and lost it. Just because you have no rank does not mean you dont , know little magic. There are many who don't have these ranks, that are in fact smart!

The entirety of your thread assumes that level of knowledge is shown by what your ranking is. I was merely making a point; that ranking is useful in a basic sense of it, but not actually useful in reality.

^A perfectly valid explanation of the ranking system, as well as exceptionally helpful to anyone new to SoM or to magic.

As for your comment about plagiarism, as you have shown in your other posts, you understand that sharing a link is not plagiarizing.

I don't normally post my own Forums because of the reason a lot of questions or knowledge has been placed, and I know that this particular subject is brought up quite frequently. Thus having the same thing repeativly told to them. I know for a fact that there is an article about this. Anyways, just remember, why post a long post obviously you know somewhat about. When there are hundreds of others that can explain it better. No disrespect.

If someone asks you about the site rankings, give them a link to one of the articles or forums about it. Like these:

http://www.spellsofmagic.com/read_post.html?post=402738

http://www.spellsofmagic.com/read_post.html?post=331508

http://www.spellsofmagic.com/read_post.html?post=633307

http://www.spellsofmagic.com/read_post.html?post=518674

Seriously, the list could go on.

It just makes me irritated that someone has to explain this yet again to someone else instead of just looking it up for themselves.
