Vitki

So I've seen the word a few times in various sources, and internet searches don't give me satisfactory results. I want to know, what is the proper modern usage of the word 'vitki'? Is it someone of a particular status or a particular practice? Can you be a self-proclaimed vitki or is it a title assigned to you?

It's a word encompassing the idea of "wise-one", "shaman", "magician", etc. Generally a Vitki is also called a Gothi or Gythia, who is the "priest/ess" of a kindred essentially. You could call yourself one if you work similar workings but to be ordained you'd have to go through certain measures:

I like Edred Thorsson's breaking down of Heathenry. Troth, Seidr, and Galdr. Troth being the religious sides of it, seidr and galdr being the esoteric side of things.

A Gothi or Gythia would be focused on the religious side of things, while a vitki would focus on the esoteric practices.

Hope that made sense ;)
