Interested in Wicca
By:
Ever since I was a you girl, I was fascinated with witchcraft/pagan/wiccan practices. I recently decided to do some research, but it's hard to read books with my parents breathing down my neck 24/7. Can someone help me with/teach me wicca? Sorry if what I said offends anyone, I am not good with words.

The Wicca forum on this site is informative. There are many sites on the internet that can help you. Some are not good, others are over simplified, and some give enough to get you 'started'. It may be difficult for you to learn or practice if you are a minor and living in your parents house. It can still be done, as many have a similar situation, but it becomes hard and complicated at times. You may be better off to wait until you are in a place of your own to practice and work now at study and learning of the path.

As you know your parents better than any of us do, it is a decision you will have to make for yourself. I do not recommend ever lying to them, I am a parent and nothing is more upsetting than having my kids lie to me, but I see no reason why you should come right out and tell them. I go with the "Don't ask, don't tell' policy. If they don't ask, don't tell. Yes, some consider this a lie by omission, *shrug*. As you are young and still learning it may come to pass that you find Wicca and magick are not the path for you. Take your time and learn, some of what is done in magick can be done in mundane ways that may or may not raise questions from your parents.

Hi Raven,

First of all, if you are in the USA you need to understand that it is illegal for anyone to teach Wicca to someone under the age of 18 without the consent of their parents. So you may have to wait until you are no longer a minor before you can find someone reputable to teach you. You might want to look at this article on Teaching Wicca to Minors: http://www.spellsofmagic.com/read_post.html?post=556828

There is a lot of information about Wicca that can be found here on SOM. In particular I'd suggest reading through the multiple threads in this post: http://www.spellsofmagic.com/read_post.html?post=580909

I have been practicing Wicca for 30 some years now. I don't take on on-line students or underage students, but I will try to answer specific questions you might have about Wicca and I am also willing to suggest books and websites to get you started.

That being said, if your parents are against you studying Wicca at this time then I would suggest that as long as you live under their roof you respect their wishes. There are plenty of other topics that you can study that will eventually stand you in good stead when you are on your own and if you still wish to pursue Wicca at that time.

Hey Raven,

Im in the same kind of situation, believe me it is not easy, but hang in there it will get easier. I live with a very religious christain and she hates anything to do with magic so I sit in my room secretly and practice what i can right now. Later when I have my own place, I will be able to practice more freely. Just give it some time.

You are not the only one looking for a good mentor.
