Traditionally people used evergreens to help keep away evil spirits: this tradition was focused on largely at Yule times and is where the modern idea for the Christmas tree originates.
Sage, rosemary, cypress, and cedar are all used to cleanse an area of negativity and spirits.

Bay is also a good choice for warding off spirits.
For psychic work, I would recommend cinnamon, allspice, jasmine, lemongrass, and yarrow. I've also heard of people using mint in teas to promote psychic awareness and to attract positive energies.

For luck I would suggest clover, sunflower, bergamot, cotton, and daffodil to name a few.

If you would like to read further on the topic, I've add some resources below that you might find interesting.
