Parents and Incense
By:
Hello everyone! I just need some advice. I'm 13, so my parents have a lot of control over me, and I'm fine with that, but there are some things that I need incense for, but my parents won't let me use it. My mom, who is fine with magick, sees it as a fire hazard. My dad, who is terrified of magick, doesn't like the smell. Is there anyway to convince my parents to let me use incense?

Thank you for any reply!

Also, if there is not anyway to convince them, does anyone know good substitutes for incense? Thanks again!

They have say over you for now. So you may not be able to change their minds. Though, you can allow your father to pick out some incence; he may be able to find some that he likes the smell of. And maybe tell your mom when you are going to be using incence or keep it in a place where it can be easily watch over.

As far as substitutes go, it depends on why you're using it. For cleansing, salt, water, certain gems, eggshell powder, etc. can be used. If it is for the properties of the herbs in the incence, you may be able to drink them in a tea, but always use caution. Some herbs are not okay to ingest. For offering, food, drink, even stones and sticks that are valuable to you can work. It really depends on why you are using the incence.

Incense is not necessary. It's a great tool to have, but if you can't have it, that doesn't mean you can't do magick.

Write your own spells. That way, you don't have to worry about substitutes.

I suppose, if you did want a substitute, you could use the scent of the incense, though. Substitute cinnamon for cinnamon incense, for example.

You can try using essential oils in an oil warmer. I prefer to use that method since I don't really like the scent of incense like your dad.

Similar to the tea thing, you can simmer herbs in some water and use the steam to get the same effect as incense. That might work better for your parents, since it's hot water and the sent tends to be a little softer in my experience.
