Eucalyptus essential oil mixed with some almond oil apply to chest and back. Put a bowl of hot water with some eucalyptus essential oil on her nightstand or if you have a face sauna use it as a mister careful that it does not burn dry so add water to it.Be careful with any small kids or pets with the hot items.
Homemade chicken soup with veggies rosemary some drops of lemon.
Tea with honey and lemon. Plenty of rest.

one of my favorite treatments for a really tight chest cold, with a non productive cough is elder flower tea. Make a really strong cup of elder flower tea. While that is steeping take a hot bath or shower. As hot as you can tolerate. Then immediately drink down the cup of tea and wrap up in a warm blanket. The tea is a diaphoretic (induces perspiration). This along with heating up in the shower will help to break up the chest congestion, making it possible to cough up the crud in your lungs. Really helps to shorten the duration of a tough chest cold.

Some herbs may help with symptoms of a cold. But none will cure the cold. However, the body is typically able to fight off a cold virus in a matter of days, so using herbs (and over-the-counter medication -- but be careful combining the two without research) will make the experience much more bearable.

Make a vegetable stock soup with an ounce of astragalus root and 1 bulb chopped garlic. (You can add other things for flavor like salt or pepper or anything else)

Astragalus protects the body from disease and great for colds and the flu.

Garlic is a very strong immune boosting plant. Plus soup is the best way of delivery when sick.

Most people would not recognize a Common Cold (Coryza). There is no cure for a Cold; we can only relieve the symptoms.
No Common Cold lasts for more than three days. It may seem more when the patient is infected with a different "strain" of the virus.
What Janko is describing is Laryngitis; and that's serious, and needs professional treatment.
