Religion and magic

I was doing some looking around on some Christian based profiles to see if there was any way I could full proof strengthen the presence of the Lord in my life by summoning angels. Now as I read over these "prayers" I noticed something dangerously similar to those chants, to the chants used to summon demons or inflict a spell on someone.

The Bible in itself is quite misleading and contradictory on that aspect. If the mere difference between being faithful to God and faithful to a demon is merely changing the names of who you're calling out to in the chant, then why is it taught to no practice in the first place? I am a Catholic and I'm sort of on a religious streak, and I am in no way trying to ask that people see things from my point of view, nor am I asking that they should pursue the craft based on my assumptions, but what I would like to know, if it is really that easy?

Can you swap out the name of a demon or an alternative God for Jesus to cast certain spells? Now religiously speaking, you technically can so long as it positively affects the flock as a whole-not just yourself. You cannot call upon The Lord to summon a blizzard or aid in a spiteful spell, for that is a sin. Because it focuses on you and no one else. That is what the Bible teaches. If you're going to do something drastic, utilise that energy to help people. Not just yourself.

But let's say, if I found another spell here that will increase my closeness to God. To summon an angel. All you really need is thought and faith. But go to a Christian based spell page and they embellish such a simple method.

So why the big difference, if the methods for both are too similar to ignore, yet one will insist the other is the wrong method.

Your answer is Intent
One's intent swings the working towards good or Evil
It's how its all directed.

Yes Intent is everything. I don't personally summon or call anything it's a personal choice but always always always I make sure my head is clear and my heart is not caring negative energy. Before I begin any type of magick based practice.

LittleRose, you don't have to call upon angels to feel closer to God. In fact, many Christians will say that calling angels is taking attention away from God -- but that comes down to belief, and as I have never been Catholic, I have no input on that matter for you.

There are some things to consider:

Firstly, there are many, many wonderful verses in the Bible which are used even outside of Christianity, for spiritual purposes. But they do evoke God. The book of Psalms is an excellent source of poetic verses.

Secondly, there are things which are both forbidden to followers of God in the Bible (mainly in the Old Testament, so which dogma you follow will determine what sort of legitimacy you place into it), yet are practiced *for* God in the Old Testament. The easiest example is the practice of divination. It is implicitly forbidden in God's laws, yet the high priests used the Urim and Thummim -- divination tools used to determine the will of God. Basically what a lot of these contradictions comes down to, in my own interpretation, is that their rules forbade use of certain practices for any purpose *except* use for God, or to evoke God, or what have you with a direct link to God in stead of another source.

Thirdly, you don't have to use a prayer, practice, ritual, or anything else which already exists, if you choose not to. You can make your own, completely from scratch, or adapt others if you so choose.
